We are elated to congratulate Janet Adegboye, MD, MS, on winning first place in the Residents’ Research Essay Contest for her outstanding scientific abstract submission: “Management Strategies and Clinical Outcomes of Obstetric Patients Who Decline Allogeneic Blood Transfusion”. Her award will be presented and announced at the Celebration of Research on October 21 at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2024.

This year, for the first time in years, the School of Medicine allowed graduating residents to be nominated for induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. It was a rigorous process, and only a few were chosen by the committee. It is our great pleasure to announce that we had 3 of our graduates chosen for this honor—more than any other department across the SOM. This is a real testament to the incredible accomplishments of all of our trainees and especially these 3 inductees. Please join us in congratulating Janet Adegboye, MD, MS; Tym Kajstura, MD, PHD; and Tony Wang, MD!

We are delighted to congratulate ACCM trainees Javier Allende Labastida, MD, PhD, (postdoc Kannan lab) and James Sowers, MD, PhD, (ACCM resident, Kannan lab) on being selected as top 20 at the 2024 National Neurotrauma Society meeting held in San Fransisco.

Please join us in congratulating Lori Edwards, MD, MBBS, on receiving the ACCM Resident Research Mentor Award at the 2024 ACCM Residency Graduation. She was nominated by Brandon Sumida, MD.

Austin Lefebvre (PI), MD, Sung-Min Cho (Co-PI), DO, NHS, and Marek Mirski, MD, PhD, have been chosen to receive a 2024 Johns Hopkins Discovery Award for their Discovery Proposal, “Non-Invasive Imaging for Cardiovascular Evaluation (NICE)”. Their proposal was selected from a highly competitive pool of 286 proposals by faculty from across the university.

We are thrilled to congratulate Amanda Levin, MD, on being selected to the Pediatrics Residency Program Teaching Honor Roll for 2023-2024 academic year. She was selected by the residents as playing an integral role in pediatric resident education throughout the year and for the work she put into resident education in the PICU. She was recognized at the Love Fest Celebration on June 10, 2024.

The winners of this quarter’s MVP award are individuals who work incredibly hard, are always willing to stay late to help a colleague, or volunteer to be there for anyone who needs it. They have volunteered their time outside of work to improve the program and always have positive can-do attitudes that lift the spirits of those around them. Please join us in congratulating Gaurav Shrestha, MD, in the CA3 class, Imelda “Mel” Muller, MD, in the CA2 class, and Kody Armann, MD, in the CA1 class.

Please join us in congratulating Alexis Thompson, MD, one of our 3rd year Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellows, who was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
