Brandon Sumida, MD served as the ACCM lead/host for multiple Hopkins events for Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-Tech) students from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. In December, Michael Banks, MD, Brandon Sumida, MD, Imelda Muller, MD, Janet Adegboye, MD, and Julian Rowe (MS4) hosted an event to teach students about anesthesia careers and participate in hands-on activities including intubation and point-of-care ultrasound. In February, P-Tech students participated in a day of hospital-wide shadowing which included time on the wards and in the operating room. Thank you to all the nurses, respiratory therapists, anesthesia residents, and guest speakers who volunteered and shared a day in their life at Hopkins!

Courtney Robertson, MD received a StAAR Investigator Award for the project, “Targeting sex-specific and cell-specific bioenergetic alterations to improve outcome after pediatric traumatic brain injury.”

Lakshmi Santhanam, PhD received a StAAR Investigator Award for the project, “Temporal dynamics of aortic extracellular matrix turnover during aging.”

Jennifer Schramm, MD received a Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Award for the project, “Machine learning to identify risk factors for the development of necrotizing enterocolitis in children with congenital heart disease.”

Elizabeth Tucker, MD and co-investigators Sam Das, PhD and Blanca Rodriguez, PhD received a StAAR Investigator Award for the project, “Liquid biopsy of extracellular vesicles serves as novel TB meningitis diagnostic panel.”

Deondra Asike, MD has been named Chair of the Maryland Cannabis Public Health Advisory Council.

Mary Beth Brady, MD, FASE was appointed to the American Society of Echocardiography’s Planning Committee for the 2024 Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Forum. This committee is tasked with creating a groundbreaking forum. Intentionally multidisciplinary, this forum will assemble an audience of field experts and will dive into all aspects of HCM.

Mary Beth Brady, MD, FASE created and moderated a session at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia, PA  “Interventional Echo and Transcatheter Procedures: A Multidisciplinary Look at Where We Are, Where We Are Heading, and Where We Should Be.”

Mary Beth Brady, MD, FASE presented at the International Congress of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia in conjunction with the Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia Society of South Africa in Cape Town, South Africa. She co-moderated the session on “Global Echocardiography.” Within that session she spoke on “Interventional Echocardiography.”

Mary Beth Brady, MD, FASE presented at the International Congress of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia in conjunction with the Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia Society of South Africa in Cape Town, South Africa. She was panelist on the session on “Global Echo-decision Making.”

Emily Burson, DO, RD was awarded the CA1 Resident MVP Award for Q2.

Sung-Min Cho, DO, MHS is the Co-Founder of the JH HERALD Group, a complex multidisciplinary ECMO research team, which received the 2023 ICTR Team Science Award in January 2024.

Sapna Kudchadkar, MD, PhD was promoted to Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.

Aliaksei Pustavoitau, MD was the co-founder and co-chair of a new full-day Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) ultrasound course, “Introduction to Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Life Support and Sepsis,” which was sold out for both offered sessions at the SCCM Congress in Phoenix in January.

Aliaksei Pustavoitau, MD was a moderator for several sessions including, Bonus CE Session Moderator for “Procedural Billing for Critical Care Ultrasound: Is It Worth the Lift?,” Concurrent Session Moderator for “Be FOCUSed: Ultrasound Support for Resuscitation of Patients with Sepsis and Septic Shock,” and Roundtable Discussion Moderator for “Tales From Ukraine: A Physician’s Perspective” at the Society of Critical Care Medicine Congress in Phoenix in January.

Aliaksei Pustavoitau, MD was a co-author of two posters: “Addition of Focused Transthoracic Echocardiography into Critical Care Fellowship Programs: A Multicenter Prospective Study” and “Rapid Ultrasound Evaluation of Patients with Sepsis-Associated Hypotension Using Pattern Recognition” at the Society of Critical Care Medicine Congress in Phoenix in January.

Courtney Robertson, MD received the 21st Annual Distinguished Alumna Award from the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

John Sampson, MD received the Founders Special Recognition Award at the SCCM Congress in Phoenix in January. This award recognizes an individual for service and active participation in SCCM during the previous year.

Robert Stevens, MD, MBA, FCCM gave Grand Rounds at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, presenting “Next Generation Intensive Care Medicine: Transformative Role of Artificial Intelligence.”

Robert Stevens, MD, MBA, FCCM was the invited speaker in the Department of Neurology, NYU Langone Medical Center, presenting “Next Generation Intensive Care Medicine.”

Robert Stevens, MD, MBA, FCCM was nominated to serve on the Steering Committee of the Society of Critical Care Medicine Discovery Initiative.

As Associate Editor of the journal Thorax, Robert Stevens, MD, MBA, FCCM commissioned a new series on advances in intensive care medicine.

Chi Zhang, PhD was awarded the A. McGehee Harvey Award by the Johns Hopkins University Young Investigators’ Day Program, and will officially receive this honor at the event on April 17.
