Ima Chinedozi, MD, MPH was awarded an American Society of Anesthesiologists Professional Mentoring Grant for the topic, “Bridging the GAPP: Diversifying Health Education Champions.”
Roger Johns, MD, MHS, PhD is the senior POI on a recently awarded, 4-year, MPI R01 (HL166717) grant from NIH titled “Resistin Regulates NLRP3 Inflammasome in Pulmonary Hypertension,” with Qing Lin, MD, MHS, PhD as a co-PI.
Katherine Hoops, MD, MPH, (JD candidate) was awarded her first R01 from CDC for a project entitled “Pediatric Trauma Centers RE-AIM at Gun Safety.” This study will test the effectiveness of a comprehensive training strategy, ACTFAST (Adopting Comprehensive Training for FireArm Safety in Trauma centers), for improving the implementation of a firearm injury prevention effort aimed at increasing protective factors and reducing future pediatric firearm injury and death. Findings from this study, conducted at three major pediatric trauma centers, will help to establish best practices for delivering firearm injury prevention screening and counseling within the pediatric trauma center. She is joined on this award by several co-investigators at Johns Hopkins including Dr. Cassandra Crifasi (SPH), Dr. Michelle Patch (SON), and Dr. Isam Nasr (DOS).
Oluremilekun Oyefolu was awarded an American Society of Anesthesiologists Professional Mentoring Grant (mentored by John Sampson, MD) for the topic, “Impact assessment of increased oxygen access at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in The Gambia.”
Accomplishments and Honors
Lauren Booth, CRNP has launched an JHH-wide APP career mentoring program through the Advanced Practice Advisory Council, that will include train-the-trainer sessions and CV and personal statement advisory over this upcoming academic year. Session 1 was held in August with guest collaborators Heather Watson, PhD, RN (SoN), Caitlin O’Brien, MD, MPH, and Katie O’Conor, MD.
Philip Carullo, MD was promoted to Program Director for the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship Program.
Sung Min Cho, DO, MHS was an invited speaker at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Neurocritical Care Society in Phoenix, AZ, presenting “Bedside systems for ICU systems: What is the evidence?” and “Extracorporeal life support and brain injury- is this cause and effect, and is it preventable?”
Morgan Dupree, Jerrica O’Neal, and Sheba Sharifi, SRNAs in the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing DNP Nurse Anesthesia Program, with faculty mentors Lukeythia Bastardi, DNAP, CRNA, Katie O’Conor, MD, and Michael Banks, MD, MEHP, cohosted the inaugural launch event for the MAC Meetup, (Minority Anesthesiology Connection Meetup), which was well attended by Hopkins ACCM CRNAs and Hopkins SRNA students.

Jennifer Lee, MD received the 2023 Leadership Award for an Individual (Emerging) by the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Women in Medicine and Science.
Rohan Mathur, MD, MPA, Sudha Yellapantula, PhD, Lin Cheng, PhD, Peter Dziedzic, MS, Eusebia Calvillo, RN and Jose Suarez, MD were awarded “Best Scientific Abstract” for their abstract titled “CICL – A Machine-Learning based Methodology to Classify ICP Epochs” at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Neurocritical Care Society in Phoenix, AZ where they also presented their research in a platform presentation.
