Yun Guan, PhD received a $59,000 Blaustein Pain Fund Award from Johns Hopkins University for the project “The engagement of spinal adenosine A3 receptor driven GABAergic inhibition by peripheral nerve stimulation.”
David Mintz, MD, PhD received a $50,000 StAAR Investigator Award for the project, “Perioperative Supplemental Oxygen Exposure Acts on the Microbiome to Disrupt Immune Function.”
Katie O’Conor, MD received a $20,000 Urban Health Institute – Baltimore Health Equity Impact Grant to develop and implement a trauma-informed care and vicarious trauma program in collaboration with the Esperanza Center and the HEAL Refugee Health and Asylum Collaborative.
Tachira Tavarez, MD, MS received a $30,000 StAAR Mentored Training Award for the project, “Delayed IL-10 Treatment Targeted at Microglia/Macrophages After Intracerebral Hemorrhage.”

Sean Barnes, MD, MBA presented “Risks vs, Benefits of Social Media Use in Critical Care – Physician Perspective” at the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society meeting in Miami, Florida.
Mary Beth Brady, MD FASE has been named to the American Society of Echocardiography’s Interventional Echocardiography Council. This newly created ASE Council consists of nationally renowned experts in the field will address the burgeoning field of Interventional Echocardiography and its use during Structural Heart procedures. Dr. Brady is one of only two anesthesiologists chosen to serve on the Council.
Steven Cohen, MD received an honorary Visiting Professor appointment at Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Cohen delivered several Grand Rounds lectures to different departments on facet joint pain, nociplastic pain, and other topics.
