Objective(s):
- Review evidence relating to risk and benefits of spinal and general anesthesia in infants and children
- Discuss the unique cerebrovascular physiology of neonates and infants, and how vascular anesthetic effects may be exacerbated in this population
- Describe how anesthetized neonates and infants may be at higher risk for organ hypoperfusion during hypotension
- Propose a paradigm shift in anesthetic care may increase perioperative safety for neonates and infants
