Dr. Paul Nyquist was recently awarded a research grant from NINDS (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke). Dr. Nyquist’s grant is titled “Vascular Contributors to Blood Brain Barrier Permeability and Regional White Matter Hyperintensity Progression in Young Asymptomatic People.”

This study is designed to elucidate understanding of biological pathways involved in early brain white matter disease in a young healthy susceptible population using state of the art imaging techniques, measures of cognition, and genomic approaches. Findings may enable opportunities for novel strategies to ameliorate cognitive decline at later ages. Dr. Nyquist and his team will complete a targeted number of 630 MRI’s with gadolinium to measure blood brain barrier permeabilitry as well as white matter progression in an intensely well characterized population.
