Dr. Patrick Newman joined the University of Mississippi Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology in July of 2019. As an assistant professor, he works in the OR, SICU, and CVICU as he is double board certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. He was born in Jackson, Tennessee and raised in Southwest Louisiana. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Louisiana Tech University With a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering in 2010, he earned his MD from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 2014. Dr. Newman completed his anesthesiology residency at UAMS where he served as chief resident his CA-3 year. He then completed his critical care medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2019 before moving back south to start his career at UMMC.
His medical interests include point—of-care ultrasound, improving patient-physician interactions, and educating residents/medical students. In the 2020-2021 academic year, he was voted teacher of the year by the anesthesiology residents.
He is married to his wife of 10 years, Jess. They enjoy spending time outdoors, weekend getaways, taking their dog, JoJo, to the park, and LSU sports. Geaux Tigers!
