Alex Schmidt, MD

Dr. Alex Schmidt graduated from Med-School at the Justus-Liebig University Giessen (Germany) in 2007 and decided to go to Switzerland for an Anesthesia Residency Program. After completing a Pediatric Anesthesia as well as a Cardiac Anesthesia fellowship, he received board certification for Anesthesiology in 2014.
Dr. Schmidt worked as a Pediatric Anesthesia attending for 4 years at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich (Switzerland) before going to Stanford to specialize
in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.
Since 2020, Dr. Schmidt has been a faculty member of the Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia division at Stanford. His main research interest is in preoperative fasting in children. He has published important studies on this topic and is a member of the European Society of Anesthesia Task Force for the development of new fasting guidelines. Dr. Schmidt is also a member of the SPA Q&S committee for pre-operative fasting guidelines for children.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He enjoys all outdoor activities.
