Grants Received

Sung-Min Cho, DO, MHS, is PI on three recently funded grants. The first grant is a BOOST grant from the Johns Hopkins ICTR for the AFERCOR study, in which he will investigate long-term neurological outcomes of ICU patients with COVID-19. The funds will cover Clinical Research Unit costs. The second grant is a Johns Hopkins-funded COVID-19 Bridge Grant with co-PI Glenn Whitman. The funds will support a postdoctoral fellow for ECMO research. The third grant, funded by Hyperfine, will support the SAFE MRI study. The purpose of this study is to investigate safety and feasibility of using portable MRI for ECMO patients.

Tina Doshi, MD, MHS, was awarded a 3-year Research Supplement to an existing NIH UH3 grant, “Sequenced-strategy for improving outcomes in people with Knee OsteoArthritis Pain (SKOAP)” trial, as part of the NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative.  The project is jointly funded through NIAMS and NINDS and will investigate inflammatory profiles as biomarkers in chronic pain.

Tina Doshi, MD, MHS, is a Co-Investigator (site PI) of a 5-year, multi-site NIH R01 with the University of Maryland (PI: Luana Colloca, UMB) for “Neural Mechanisms of Immersive Virtual Reality in Chronic Pain.” The study is supported by the NCCIH and will investigate virtual reality use in patients with temporomandibular disorder.

Yun Guan, MD, PhD, and Srinivasa Raja, MD, are co-investigators on a UH3 phase of an NIH HEAL grant for development of a new drug for pain treatment. The title of the grant is Development of MRGPRX1 positive allosteric modulators as non-addictive therapies for neuropathic pain, and the PI is Takashi Tsukamoto of the Johns Hopkins Brain Science Institute. Funding will be $1,524,982 per year.
