Michael Phelps attended engineering school at Johns Hopkins University, during which time he was employed in the Department of Anesthesiology in various capacities, including working as an anesthesia technician. After finishing his engineering degree, he worked for 4 years as a software engineer, and then obtained his MD from Temple University. He subsequently completed a residency in anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins and has been on the faculty at Johns Hopkins for the past 10 years.
Dr. Phelps’ clinical and academic interests include non-operating room anesthesia, total intravenous anesthesia, and medical device integration. He is involved in the management of anesthesia supplies and equipment at Johns Hopkins, and is also the medical director of the CCBC/Johns Hopkins Anesthesia Technology school.
