We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gregory K. Yurasek has been appointed to the rank of Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Yurasek joined our faculty last year as Medical Unit Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and physician leader in the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center, and this appointment reflects the outstanding contributions he has made throughout his career.

Dr. Yurasek is a nationally recognized leader in pediatric cardiac critical care, holding board certifications in pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric critical care. Over his decade in practice, he has developed innovative programs in medical simulation, quality improvement, and interprofessional education, including the first cardiac ICU-focused virtual reality simulation curriculum in the country. His work has earned numerous awards and has had a measurable impact on patient outcomes, including contributing to an improvement in single-ventricle patient survival rates from 60% to over 80% at his prior institution. He serves in national leadership roles with both the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society.

Since joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Yurasek has already demonstrated the clinical excellence, educational dedication, and collaborative spirit that define our mission. In addition to his role leading the PCICU, he has accepted the position of Director of ECMO for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Yurasek on this well-deserved recognition.
