We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Adam Laytin, MD, MPH, has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. This well-deserved recognition reflects Dr. Laytin’s exceptional contributions as a clinician, researcher, and educator, and his growing reputation as a nationally and internationally recognized leader at the intersection of critical care, emergency medicine, and global health.
Dr. Laytin has built a remarkable body of work focused on improving access to high-quality critical care for patients in resource-limited settings, with particular expertise in Ethiopia and other low- and middle-income countries. His research spans ICU capacity assessment, clinical registries, injury scoring, and quality improvement, and has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented at major international conferences. He has secured federal and foundation grant funding and cultivated an impressive network of global collaborators, including partnerships with researchers at Oxford University and the WHO, where he serves as a content consulting expert.
Beyond his research, Dr. Laytin is a deeply valued educator and mentor across all levels of training, from medical students and residents to international critical care fellows. He developed a Health Equity in the ICU curriculum for our fellowship program, helped establish the first multidisciplinary ICU fellowship in Ethiopia, and recently launched the Global Critical Care Fellows Webinar Series, which now reaches approximately 50 fellows and faculty across Africa each week. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Laytin on this outstanding achievement.
