PROMOTIONS
Dr. David Berman has been promoted to Associate Professor on the Clinical Excellence Track in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Berman is recognized regionally and nationally for his expertise as a clinician, educator, and leader in obstetric anesthesiology and fetal surgery. Since joining Johns Hopkins as faculty in 2018 following his obstetric anesthesiology fellowship, he has become an invaluable member of the obstetric and fetal anesthesia team and a leader in the care of patients undergoing complex fetal procedures. His clinical innovations, including Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols for numerous fetal surgeries, are now used at fetal surgery centers around the world.
Dr. Salia Farrokh has been promoted to Associate Professor on the Clinical Excellence Track in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Since joining Johns Hopkins in 2016, Dr. Farrokh has established herself as a nationally recognized expert in neurocritical care pharmacotherapy, with expertise in the management of neurological emergencies, anticoagulation reversal, and optimization of medication therapy for critically ill neurological patients. Her clinical innovations, including protocols for stroke care, intracranial hemorrhage reversal, and neurocritical care medication management, have improved patient care at Johns Hopkins and have been adopted by institutions across the country.
Dr. Caitlin O’Brien has been promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine on the Scholarship Track. Dr. O’Brien completed her Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins, where she also pursued a T32 research fellowship in pediatric neuroscience. She joined the faculty in 2018 and has since established herself as an outstanding clinician-scientist dedicated to improving neurologic outcomes for critically ill children.
Dr. Courtney Robertson has been promoted to Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Robertson’s promotion reflects her exceptional dedication to improving outcomes for neurologically injured children through groundbreaking science, outstanding clinical care, and the cultivation of the next generation of leaders in our field.

- Dr. Christopher Robinson has been invited to speak at 2027 American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) Scientific Session on psychedelics in pain medicine. Dr. Robinson has also been Invited to join the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS) AI Advisory Committee. He has been Invited to be a speaker on 3 panels for the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience Conference 2026 (2 on artificial intelligence and 1 on novel pain therapeutics), and to speak on 3 panels for the International Society of Pain and Neuroscience Conference 2026 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. At the International Society of Pain and Neuroscience Conference 2026 in Amsterdam, Dr. Robinson has also been Invited to run an ultrasound/regenerative medicine course (2 on regenerative medicine, 1 on artificial intelligence). - Dr. Kara Segna has been appointed to the Bylaws Committee for Bayview Medical Center and the Conference Planning Committee for the American Academy of Pain Medicine.
- Dr. Jochen Steppan was elected to the Board of Directors of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) for a three-year term as an Director-at-Large.
- Dr. Jed Wolpaw was appointed to the IEE (Institute for Excellence In Education) Managing Board of Directors. Dr Wolpaw was also awarded the 2026 Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching from the School of Medicine, and was recognized as a 2026 McGraw Hill Pathfinder Award Honorable Mention.
