Dr. Berman is recognized regionally and nationally for his expertise as a clinician, educator, and leader in obstetric anesthesiology and fetal surgery. Since joining Johns Hopkins as faculty in 2018 following his obstetric anesthesiology fellowship, he has become an invaluable member of the obstetric and fetal anesthesia team and a leader in the care of patients undergoing complex fetal procedures. His clinical innovations, including Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols for numerous fetal surgeries, are now used at fetal surgery centers around the world.

Dr. Berman is also an exceptional and highly decorated educator who has played a major role in residency and medical student education. He has served in multiple residency leadership roles, including Assistant Program Director, Associate Program Director, and inaugural Intern Year Director, and he has developed numerous educational programs and curricula that have strengthened training across the department. His impact as an educator extends nationally through digital educational resources, lectures, and leadership in professional societies, and he has received multiple teaching awards locally and nationally in recognition of his outstanding educational contributions. He also serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Clinically, Dr. Berman has had the honor to serve as the requested anesthesiologist for many members of the Hopkins community, both in the main operating rooms and on Labor and Delivery. The award with the most meaning for Dr. Berman, however, was his recent winning of the “Best Dad Jokes” award by the Weinberg operating room staff. On an institutional level, Dr. Berman currently serves as Vice Chair for the School of Medicine Faculty Senate.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Berman on this well-deserved promotion and in thanking him for his many contributions to our department, our trainees, and our patients. While his time at Hopkins is drawing to a close, we are grateful to have him around and will endure the Dad Jokes until June.
