Resident MVP Award Winners for Q1
It is our pleasure to announce the winners of the Resident MVP award for the first quarter of the academic year. Thank you to all the faculty who sent in nominations. It says a lot about our trainees that so many were suggested by their faculty for this award.
![]() Dr. Samip Patel CA3 class | ![]() Dr. Chris Riis CA2 class | ![]() Dr. Darby Moore CA1 class |
The award was established by generous gifts from appreciative ACCM attendings to recognize one resident in each class per quarter who goes above and beyond in their efforts to care for patients and to help support their colleagues. Thanks to the generous support of our faculty, the award comes with an honorarium for each resident.
The winners of this quarter’s MVP award are individuals who work incredibly hard, are always willing to stay late to help a colleague or volunteer to be there for anyone who needs it. They have volunteered their time outside of work to improve the program and always have positive can-do attitudes that lift the spirits of those around them.
Patient Blood Management Recertification Survey at JHH Concludes with No Citations, High Praise
We’re pleased to share that the Patient Blood Management (PBM) Recertification Survey at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, conducted Sept. 10, concluded with no citations.
This one-day visit, led by a single surveyor, included site visits to areas where blood is stored, administered, or transfused – such as the Adult Emergency Department, Blood Bank, OB/Labor & Delivery, SICU, Zayed 9W, and ZBOR 3 & 5. At each stop, the surveyor commended the dedication, passion, and stellar teamwork on display.
The surveyor praised the PBM and Bloodless Medicine Programs for their continued growth and excellence since first earning certification in 2017, stating, “Not another PBM-Bloodless program can rival what you do.” The surveyor also highlighted the strength of the program’s leadership in maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance.
Thank you to Dr. Steve Frank, Lisa Shifflett, and the Bloodless Medicine team for their leadership, and to Human Resources, the Medical Staff Office, Quality, Improvement, Transfusion Medicine, and Command Center staff for their support.
And thank you all for helping make this survey such a success.

Reminder: ACCM Applause is a place for us to celebrate our colleagues for the outstanding work they do every day. Do you know someone who deserves recognition? Click here to give them an Applause!
Student Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs)
