After earning his medical school at the Ohio University, he completed his neurology residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Following this, he trained as a neurocritical care fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After the fellowship, he stayed at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as a faculty in 2019. He is currently an Associate Professor of Neurology, Surgery, Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. He serves as the Director of Adult ECMO research at Johns Hopkins and the PI of the HERALD lab. He is funded by NIH and DARPA and his lab focuses on translational “bench to bedside” research to multicenter clinical trials in the field of Critical Care and ECMO. As an accomplished clinician scientist, he has published more than 280 peer-reviewed original articles, review articles, and guidelines.
