Irene Blake is one of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioners at the Johns Hopkins PICU. She joined the Hopkins PICU family in 2019. She works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care for children with a variety of critical and life-threatening illnesses.

Prior to joining Hopkins, she served as a PICU NP at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where she treated and coordinated care for children of military families. She has been in pediatric critical care medicine both as a bedside nurse and pediatric nurse practitioner for over 10 years. Ms. Blake chose pediatrics and critical care medicine because of children’s authenticity despite their illness and the ability to make an impact in a family’s life which can be both rewarding and challenging. Ms. Blake has special interests in pediatric trauma and burn, traumatic brain injury and maternal-child wellness.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, the beach, discovering new restaurants and good food.

Education

Ms. Blake earned both her bachelor’s in nursing and her MSN for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners – acute and tertiary care focus at University of Maryland in Baltimore. She is certified through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
