You may ask yourself “What is Quality in Healthcare?” Many people have heard about the Institute of Medicine Reports “To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System and Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Healthcare System for the 21st Century.” These landmark reports questioned our beliefs that hospitals are safe places for patients and argued that healthcare is one of the leading causes of harm in our country. Since that report became part of our cultural history almost 20 years ago, quality reporting and regulatory requirements created to improve patient care have increased exponentially. In healthcare, we are constantly striving to understand how the next patient will be harmed and working to continuously improve the care we give. So, What is Quality in Healthcare today?
