Soo-Ok Kim, MSN, CRNA, ACNP, received a bachelor of science in nursing with a minor in education from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea in 1990. While in school, Soo-Ok was a member of the Venerato Vital Club, a medical missions club serving underserved areas. She was also the editor-in-chief for the School of Nursing Journal. Soo-Ok was a nurse in Korea for 2 years before immigrating to the US.

In 2002, Soo-Ok received her ACNP license from Johns Hopkins University and then worked at Johns Hopkins as an acute care nurse practitioner. In 2007, she received her master’s degree in nurse anesthesiology from the University of Maryland. She is now an adjunct faculty associate for the University of Maryland, School of Nursing and a clinical instructor for the University of New England. Soo-Ok has presented lectures on various anesthesia-related topics for the Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland nurse anesthesia programs.

In addition to rendering anesthesia, Soo-Ok serves as the High School Intern/Mentorship Program coordinator in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. She also works in the Pathways in Technology Early College High School program (P-TECH) at Dunbar High School, is the Korean PTA president at a local high school, and serves as a Howard County Public School Community Advisory Board member. At Hopkins, Soo-Ok enjoys the pediatric and otolaryngology cohorts.
