Akos Kalmar
“Akos is always a team player. He is always checking on the people he is working with to make sure we have had breaks and everything else we may need. He gives lunch breaks despite being triple posted and makes sure to check in before a case to see if there is any way he can help. I look forward to the days I see us working together on the longsheet regardless of whether its JHOC, Endo, Wilmer or Weinberg. He is a great teammate and deserving of applause.”
– Bri LaFuria
Samantha Roche, Jake Blum, and Brandon Barrett
“Huge applause for the chief residents who work incredibly hard every day and bring a positive attitude and supportive collegiality to everything they do. You three are fabulous leaders!”
– Jed Wolpaw
Laeben Lester
“I am just coming up for air. Thanks so much for your incredible expert work in the OR on Wednesday night. I was beyond exhausted and it was a super tough case. The coagulopathy was as fierce as I have ever seen. You were cool, collected, and just got to work fixing things – thanks for your expertise and collaboration, the patient is doing incredibly well: you are a great colleague, friend, and partner.”
Thanks to Dr. Jake Abernathy for sharing this kudos for Dr. Laeben from a surgeon colleague!
GRANTS RECEIVED
Jeeun Kang, PhD (Principal Investigator), Raymond C. Koehler, PhD (Co-Investigator), Jennifer K. Lee-Summers, MD (Co-Investigator), and Zeng-jin Yang, MD, PhD (Co-Investigator) have been recently awarded a grant from the NIH Blueprint MedTech program for Neurotechnology, in addition direct support for clinical translation from the NIH. Through this program, ACCM will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of experts to develop a novel intrapartum fetal brain monitoring technology, including computer and mechanical engineering experts from the Whiting School of Engineering (Emad Boctor, PhD, and Iulian Iordachita, PhD) and an obstetrician-gynecologist clinical expert in Johns Hopkins Hospital (Ernest Graham, MD).
Jeeun Kang, PhD, is a co-investigator on a recently awarded ARPA-H Small Business Innovation Research grant aimed at developing a next-generation echocardiography system utilizing autonomous ultrasound (US) scanning and artificial intelligence-based diagnostics for congenital heart diseases in neonates. This advancement seeks to address the limitations of current standard practice, which relies on perinatal US imaging and pulse oximetry, in terms of accuracy.
Jeeun Kang, PhD (Co-investigator; Chief Imaging Device Manager), Raymond C. Koehler, PhD (Co-Investigator), and Zeng-jin Yang, MD, PhD (Co-Investigator) have been recently awarded a grant from the ARPA-H Precision Surgical Interventions (PSI) program. The project aims to develop a novel multi-scale surgical guidance system utilizing light and sound in both laparoscopic and open surgical environments. This collaborative effort involves a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional team comprising Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering and School of Medicine, UT Southwestern, NIH Clinical Center, Kitware Inc., and Intuitive Surgical Inc.
