    • Sean Barnes, MD, MBA, and Sapna Kudchadkar, MD, presented a Social Media Primer at the 23rd Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium in New York, NY
    • Sean Barnes, MD, MBA, presented an abstract titled “Social Media for Dissemination of Pediatric Critical Care Content – A hashtag analysis” at the 23rd Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium in New York, NY.
    • Ivor Berkowitz, MD, was chosen as a Top Doctor in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine by Baltimore Magazine.
    • Mark Bicket, MD, and Michael Erdek, MD co-hosted a journal club that they live-hosted in real time on Twitter. They think it was the first Pain Medicine-specific journal club to take place simultaneously on social media. It received both national and international interaction during the course of the event.
    • PICU fellow Katharine Boyle, MD, was awarded a position on the T32 Training Program for Clinician Scientists in Pediatric Critical Cardiopulmonary Disease. Her primary mentor is Melania Bembea, and her secondary mentors are Sujatha Kannan, Allen Everett, and Ali Fatemi.
    • Mary Beth Brady, MD, FASE, represented the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists at the American College of Cardiology Roundtable on Evolving Strategies in Valvular Heart Disease, held in Washington, DC. Among a very small multidisciplinary group of experts, Dr. Brady was the sole anesthesiologist. Other participants included leaders in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, the FDA, and CMS.
    • Steven Cohen, MD, was appointed as Chair, ASRA Guidelines Committee.
    • Michael Erdek, MD, was appointed to the faculty of the Berman Institute of Bioethics here at Johns Hopkins.
    • Two reviews published by Nick Flavahan, PhD, were cited in a recent New York Times article about Reynaud’s Phenomenon.
    • Steve Frank, MD, was appointed to a second term on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).
    • Steve Frank, MD, was a visiting professor at Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill, where he gave a talk titled “Evidence-based Transfusion Practice and Blood Management Programs”.
    • Giuliana Geng-Ramos, MD, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor.
    • A press release was issued on December 6 on the work of Nikki Heller, PhD, and her lap. The press release is titled “Turning Off Asthma Attacks,” which describes how certain regulatory proteins in the immune system may continue to be active in patients with asthma when they should be turned “off.” The story was also featured in MDLinx and was a feature story on the Inside Hopkins daily email.
    • Jonathan Ho, MD, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor.
    • Elizabeth Hunt, MD, MPH, PhD, was invited to speak about the evolution of the teaching style she created, i.e., “Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice,” at the European Resuscitation Council in Reykjavik, Iceland, as well as at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Canada; The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada; and Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago. She was also invited to speak at a Plenary Session at the American Heart Association Resuscitation Science Symposium on “Team Science and Trauma Care” in New Orleans, LA.

  • Wailin Lau, CRNA, MS, Slava Barodka, MD, and Alex Hansen, MS, presented a poster at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement 28th Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care, December 4 to December 7, 2016. The story board was titled “Building Trust to Safely Implement and Evaluate High Frequency Jet Ventilators in Electrophysiology Procedures.”

  • Sarah Nelson, MD, had an abstract accepted for a poster presentation at the International Stroke Conference entitled: “Metabolite Profiling Identifies a Specific Profile for Cardioembolic Stroke.”
  • The article titled Patient safety reporting systems: sustained quality improvement using a multidisciplinary team and “good catch” awards, by Kurt Herzer, Meredith Mirrer, Yanjun Xie, Jochen Steppan, Matthew Li, Clinton Jung, Renee Cover, Peter A. Doyle, and Lynette Mark, which was originally published in 2012, is being included in a forthcoming book by Joint Commission Resources. The title of the book is Strategies for Creating, Sustaining, and Improving a Culture of Safety in Health Care, 2nd edition, and it is scheduled to publish in early January 2017. All authors were working in ACCM at the time of the original project.
  • Robert Stevens, MD, was a visiting professor and grand rounds speaker at the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Oregon Health Science University in November.
